THE FEMALE WAR CORRESPONDENT

Student Presentations

Purpose:  To become familiar with some women who served as war correspondents.  Understand how roles in combat journalism were limited and female participation was circumscribed by prevailing attitudes.  Who are Nellie Bly, Martha Gellhorn and Flora Shaw? What styles did they use in reporting?  What wars did they cover?   What types of literary organizations allowed these women to publish?  How would you describe their ‘voice?’  What are the differences between radio, print and photojournalism?
