Newspapers Online: Subscription Newspapers

NWC Library Newspaper Subscriptions

This guide explains how to link to new and existing newspapers. You may now access these newspapers online via the NWC Library's Electronic Resources A-Z list from on Campus, through Blackboard, or CAC authentication.

Some require the creation of a personal user account.  Check this page or the Electronic Resources A-Z list for updates to the NWC Library's subscriptions newspaper services.

ProQuest Historical Newspapers

NWC Library has access to 19th and early 20th century newspapers through ProQuest Historical Newspapers.

  • Boston Globe (1872-1982)   
  • Christian Science Monitor (1908-1991)
  • Chicago Tribune (1849-1990)
  • Los Angeles Times (1881-1990)
  • New York Times (1851-2001) 
  • Wall Street Journal (188889-1987)

Chronicle of Higher Education

The Chronicle of Higher Education is accessible via the Library's Electronic Resources A-Z listing from on campus, through Blackboard, or CAC authentication. 

Financial Times (FT)

The above link takes you into FT.comFT is also accessible from the Electronic Resources A-Z list on the Learning Commons homepage. In the upper right hand corner, click into Subscribe. Use the instruction handout below for tips on creating your personal user account.  The personal user account is required to access the individual article content. Archival FT content up to the last 30 days is available via ProQuest Central.

New York Times

The NYT Online (NYT.com) is located on the Electronic Resources A-Z list on the Learning Commons homepage. The link for New York Times Academic Passes Online will ask you to create an account or sign in. 

Use your usnwc.edu email address to register for the Academic Passes Online account.  Every few months, you may be required to create a new account under with the Academic Pass.  Recent content, archival, and historical editions of the NYT are available through ProQuest Central.   NTY content is also available on Nexis Uni. CDE students should use ProQuest Central or Nexis Uni for NYT content.

Wall Street Journal (WSJ)

This link accesses WSJ.com. The instructions below contain the steps for creating a personal user account. Access to recent and archival editions of the WSJ are available via ProQuest Central.

Troubleshooting

If you have trouble creating a personal user account for FT, NYT, or WSJ, or accessing an account that you have created, please follow these steps:

  • Clear your browser cache completely, close your browser session.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Try logging into the resource again.   
  • If you have had your personal user account for several months, it might be time to create a new one.

Washington Post

Access The Washington Post Online (WSJ.com) on the Electronic Resources A-Z list.  The WP Online link via the Electronic Resources A-Z list will take you through setting up a personal account with your nwc.edu email address. WP online also offers a free subscription with a valid .mil or .gov email address.

Archival article coverage is available up to 3 months ago through ProQuest Central.   Blackboard or CAC authentication is required.

Economist Online

Access the Economist Online via the Electronic A-Z list. A form requiring the establishment of a user account will pop up. Using a usnwc.edu account, create a personal user account.

In addition to the Economist.com online content, the NWC Library maintains digital access to articles from the print journal beginning in 1992 via ProQuest.

Browse ProQuest by publication title to find recent and historical coverage of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and other newspapers.
