In Google Advanced, you can choose words or phrases to include or remove from your results. This includes:
- “All these words”: Results use all the words you enter.
- “This exact word or phrase”: Results include one exact word or phrase you enter.
- “Any of these words”: Results include at least one of the words you enter.
- “None of these words”: Results don’t have any of the words you enter.
- “Numbers ranging from”: Results include a number between the 2 numbers you enter.
Google Advanced also offers useful options to help narrow and control your search results. These options include:
Language
- Allows you to search by a specific language
Region
- Find pages published in a particular region.
- Useful looking at impact of topics and research in different areas of the world
- Select from the drop down menu
Site or domain
- Search across a website
- Search one site (like wikipedia.org ) or limit your results to a domain like .edu, .org or .gov
- Just add your site/domain to the search box
Terms appearing
- Search for terms in the whole page, page title or web address, or links to the page you're looking for.
- Select an option from the drop down menu
File Type
- Search for pages in the file format that you prefer.
- Select an option from the drop down menu
- Includes the following which can be useful for grey literature materials
- Adobe Acrobat PDF
- Microsoft Excel / Word/ PowerPoint
- Rich Text Format
